How does Zithromax work?

Zithromax works by interfering with the ability of bacteria to produce proteins. The bacteria produce enzymes called lipases. Lipases play a crucial role in bacterial cell walls. When Zithromax is taken, it enters the bacterial cells. When it is taken off the market, it may break down certain antibiotics, including Zithromax.

It is important to note that Zithromax does not kill the bacteria, nor do it prevent them from spreading to other people. It simply prevents them from growing.

To help prevent infection, Zithromax should be used only after your doctor has given you a prescription for the antibiotic.
